In terms of quality and quantity, Leipzig has the greatest wealth of Wilhelminian and Art Nouveau buildings. The stucco facades are well-known, but the elaborately painted interiors and stairwells are less well-known and less accessible. With this exhibition we give an insight into the technique of wall and ceiling painting of the Gründerzeit and Art Nouveau in Leipzig.

The exhibition takes place in collaboration with Constanze Arndt , who, after studying art at the Leipzig Academy for Graphics and Book Art in 1990, took up the forgotten craft of wall and ceiling painting again and has meanwhile found international recognition for her work. She summarized her work in a specialist book on over 500 pages and 1500 photos. The exhibition also shows for the first time historical original sketches by Leipzig mural painters from the time when the Gründerzeit houses were built in the period 1900 - 1910.
